Barcelona is synonymous with creativity, but it’s also a city of scientific research, digital innovation and urban transformation. In this article, we invite you to follow a public‑transport route that takes you through some of the main technological landmarks in Barcelona and its metropolitan area, all easily accessible with the Hola Barcelona Travel Card.

Barcelona Supercomputing Center

The perfect place to start is Barcelona’s most iconic scientific facility: the home of the MareNostrum supercomputer.

Housed inside a former chapel, it’s one of the world’s most striking examples of how historical heritage and cutting‑edge technology can coexist. Here, researchers work on projects in artificial intelligence, computational medicine and climate modelling.

How to get there:

Metro: L3 - Palau Reial / Zona Universitària

Bus: V5, H4, 7, 33, 63

Whether you arrive by bus or metro, the walk is no more than ten minutes.

With the Hola Barcelona Travel Card, you can move from stop to stop with unlimited journeys on metro and bus for 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours, without worrying about single tickets or transfers.

El CosmoCaixa Barcelona: technology for everyone

We continue on the more educational side of innovation. This science museum is a European benchmark for immersive experiences in physics, astronomy and technology.

It’s an especially good choice if you’re travelling with family or if you want to explore science and technology in a hands‑on, interactive way.

How to get there:

Bus: H4, V15,  V17, 196

Hop off the bus and you’ll reach the museum in under a minute, it’s impossible to miss.

El 22@: Barcelona’s digital‑innovation district

From here, we head down towards the waterfront to enter the city’s innovation district. The 22@ is Barcelona’s great urban laboratory for digital transformation: former factories turned into tech hubs, research centres and startups.

Strolling through the area gives you a sense of how Barcelona has evolved from an industrial city into a leader in the knowledge economy.

Com arribar-hi:

Metro: L4 - Poblenou, Llacuna o Selva de Mar

Bus: X1, 7 , H12, V23, 192

Les Tres Xemeneies and Catalunya Media City

Continuing along the waterfront, we reach the former Sant Adrià de Besòs power station, now set to become one of Southern Europe’s major audiovisual and digital hubs.

The Catalunya Media City project will transform this site into a large‑scale centre for audiovisual production, video games, artificial intelligence and the digital economy, strengthening the technological profile of the Barcelona metropolitan area.

How to get there:

Metro: L3 / L2 - Paral·lel

Bus: D20, H16, V11, 24

The bus drops you off right outside, while the metro requires a short five‑minute walk.
