When TikTok and Barcelona fly together: chronicle of the first Speed Telefèric Meeting

This Thursday, May 29th, the sky of Barcelona vibrated with more likes than ever. The Montjuïc Cable Car became the viral stage of a unique experience: the first Speed Telefèric Meeting, an event organized by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) to celebrate its arrival on TikTok, under the username @tmb_bcn!

When TikTok and Barcelona fly together: chronicle of the first Speed Telefèric Meeting

A stage with great views and lots of rhythm

With the dress code and energy typical of the TikTok community, guests and content creators began arriving in the evening at the Parc de Montjuïc station of the cable car. Everything was ready: DJ Anna Gisbert set the soundtrack for the afternoon, urban artist Sara Masià began creating a live artwork inspired by the soul of Barcelona, and excitement was already in the air inside the cable car cabins. Pau Gras was the event host.

At 85 meters high, an unforgettable sunset marked the start of a new digital chapter for TMB… and perhaps also the beginning of more than one love story (or at least, good vibes and friendship).

Mysteries in the air

The highlight of the day was the “mystery companions” activity: four well-known TikTok content creators answered questions in front of the audience… without revealing who they were. Through clues and intuition, attendees had to choose with whom they would share a cabin for the cable car ride.

The surprise participants livened up the afternoon with charisma and complicity. The “matches” soared above the city, blending shy first conversations with spectacular views of Barcelona.

Association game: the city as a metaphor

Another highlight was the association game: each attendee wore a sticker with a symbol or iconic place of Barcelona. The goal? To find the pair that complemented their icon — as if finding your soulmate was as simple as connecting La Boqueria with Santa Caterina, or Camp Nou with the Olympic Stadium.

The prize? Sharing a cable car ride and answering curious questions together. The result? Laughter, videos, and lots of interaction between profiles that might only have met… hanging from a cable.

Catering, TikToks, and final giveaways

With the Montjuïc Cable Car turned into an impromptu set, the creators took the opportunity to generate content worthy of the experience. The catering and good music encouraged relaxed conversations as the sun said goodbye.

The event closed with a surprise raffle, featuring Hola Barcelona experiences as prizes: getaways on the Catalunya Bus Turístic to Penedès, the Costa Brava, and Empordà.

More than an event: a new way to experience Barcelona: The Speed Telefèric Meeting was designed as an initiative to connect with a young audience between 16 and 24 years old, strengthen TMB’s digital strategy, and make the Montjuïc Cable Car go viral. Moreover, it became a showcase of how public transport can be the stage for creative encounters, cultural activations, and memorable moments. And since TMB is on TikTok… it couldn’t have done it any other way than by reaching for the city’s sky.

And you, are you already following @tmb_bcn? Because this has only been the first trip. And surely many more are coming!
